54-GAUGE (~.44 CAL.) BRASS TWO-CAVITY KERR BULLET MOLD

$225.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 1146-63

This is a 54-gauge (approx. .44 cal.) two cavity bullet mold for the Kerr Patent Revolver. The mold halves are brass with a steel sprue cutter, screw, and pins. The mold is 7” in overall length, including the sprue cutter extension. The mold is clearly marked on the left side of the block, with the English “Robt Adams / 1852” registration crest over the size, “54”. The bottom of the sprue cutter and the mold hinge pin are both marked with the same assembly number, “2.” The mold has cavities to cast a pair of solid base, conical bullets with two grooves. The cavities are in good condition with no damage or wear noted. The mold closes perfectly and would still cast perfect bullets.

This mold has a “weathered” look to it and may have been kept in a damp environment. The brass portion of the mold has a dark bronze patina with a few scattered spots of green verdigris. The iron and steel parts show light surface rust. Overall a very nice example of this bullet mold for a revolver imported into this country by the thousands during the Civil War.  [jet]   [ph:L]
