This is a nice cartridge used in the .50 caliber Remington rolling block Cadet Rifle. Manufactured at the Frankford arsenal. Copper case with lead bullet. This cartridge is crimped very close to the base rather than higher up on the casing. This was an early form of centerfire ammunition that started in 1866; it was superseded by the Benet-primed cartridge in 1868. “Tick” marks on the head from the cartridge case forming process.
