This is what was termed the “paper envelope” cartridge. Used in Colt, Remington, and any other .44 caliber percussion revolver of the Civil War. Constructed using a typical “new model” caliber lead bullet with a plain, untreated paper cartridge case attached.
Likely made at Colt Cartridge Works. In good condition with one repaired crack. The perfect accompaniment to any “Army” caliber percussion revolver display. [jet] [ph:L]
