A muzzle-loaded cap and ball, .44 caliber single action revolver used during the American Civil War. Manufactured by Colt’s Manufacturing Company between 1860 – 1873. Over 200,000 were produced during this time, with the US Government purchasing approx. 130,000 firearms used as a sidearm by cavalry, infantry and artillery units.
This Colt .44 caliber Army Model was the most widely used revolver in the Civil War. It was a six shot, rotating rebated cylinder engraved with the famous Texas Navy Mexican scene, which occurred on May 16, 1843.
Serial numbers began at number 1 and ended around number 200500. After around serial number 50000 the three screw model became standard instead of the four screw model. This revolver is serial number 120192 all matching. Manufactured in mid- to late 1863; 65,000 Colts were produced that year. Walnut grips; no visible cartouches.
