Serial numbers for this “Fourth” model began at 85000 and ended around number 215350. This specimen is serial numbered on all parts (including wedge), 172667, which was manufactured in late-1863.

The top of the barrel is marked “ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA”. The left side of the frame is marked “COLTS / PATENT” and the left side of the trigger guard is stamped “36 CAL”.  All gun metal has a nice light gray patina with scattered traces of original bluing. The cylinder features most of the engraved cylinder scene of a battle between the Texas Navy and the Mexican Navy amid some wear. Only one of the safety pins on cylinder is hammered down all others are good. Mechanically strong and crisp. The grip straps are brass with a mellow patina. The original grips are one-piece walnut showing light holster wear. No inspector cartouche on grip.
