A ‘James Constable’ London-made, percussion, small gauge (likely 410) side by side, double barrel, percussion shotgun. Circa mid-19th century piece with a 28” long barrel and no visible markings on barrel. Lockplate forward tang stamped “JAMES CONSTABLE” on both sides. Plate also stamped with “L. ROYER” on both sides under the flat hammers. Both plate and hammers wears light engraving. Barrel surface shows a dark plum patina along with scattered rust pitting and areas of oxidation. Small bead front sight. Mechanics good. Walnut stock is in good condition with factory checkering on the wrist area and at the forend. Locking wedge at the forend along with a steel clasp / hook at the lower ferule. Shotgun retains its brass tipped, tapered, hickory ramrod set in three ferrules.
