Preprinted stock certificate with a decorative header that reads “BANK OF GETTYSBURG” across the top with three medallions under it. One shows a seated Liberty, the center is a bust image of a man who looks like Henry Clay and the third is seated Commerce.
Stock is filled in with strong period ink for Marcus Samson and is dated May 1, 1858. There reverse has a notation in ink transferring the stock to another person in 1874.
Document meas. approx. 10.50 x 6.50 inches and is in nice shape with lower left corner being slightly chipped. Same corner has a diagonal fold line
Mr. Samson shows up on the 1850 census as having been born in Germany in 1819. He is not listed in the 1860 census so he may have moved away or died.
Interesting document for the Gettysburg collector. [ad]
