GETTYSBURG PARADE FLAG, SKELLY GAR POST

$195.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 286-932

This item was distributed by local GAR Skelly Post no. 9 which was (still is) located here in the heart of town. The post was organized in 1867 to honor local resident Corporal Johnston Skelly who was a member of Company F 87th Pennsylvania volunteers.  Corporal Skelly died of wounds sustained at the Battle of Winchester.

The flag pictured is very fragile and is stamped across the front ‘1863-1913/Compliments of/ Skelly Post #9/ Penna. Dept. G.A.R’. It measures 3 ¾ “ x 2 ¼ “.  The stars on the front have considerable fading but on the reverse the stars are more prominent. There are some signs of yellowing on the back of the flag.

This is a nice 50th Anniversary commemorative piece from a prominent GAR post located right in Gettysburg. [MK] [ph:L]
