This projectile has the crude seam mold that is often found on Confederate Arsenal manufactured projectiles. The fuse is a standard Union pattern Bormann with most numbers visible, punched at number “5”. Has “US” cast next to wrench slots. Nice smooth surface, no pitting/rust; an untouched early battlefield find.
From the collection of Lee’s Headquarters Museum, one of the oldest private collections of relics and antiques in the Gettysburg area. Lee’s Headquarters Museum is located in the former Widow Thompson home, on the Chambersburg Pike (currently US Route 30 west). [ws] [ph:L]
