crest on shield; stars above, “EXCELSIOR” below. This is a three-piece button. Shank is complete and stands straight. Back mark reads “EXTRA / QUALITY”.

Button retains considerable gilt, front and back. There is some iron rust on the face and rim. Recovered in Excelsior Field which is named after the Excelsior Brigade that fought there.

From the collection of Ron Miller, brother of noted Gettysburg relic hunter Ed Miller. Ron was born in Gettysburg and was a teacher by profession. He walked and hunted the surrounding farm fields his entire life in search of relics. He was a member of the Adams County Historical Society and the Lincoln Fellowship of Pennsylvania. [jet] [ph:L]
