This is a 12-pounder iron cannonball with a tapered fuse hole. Hole measures approximately 0.85” at top. Iron is in good condition with pitting and some of the original black paint remaining. Shell is empty.
This was acquired from the 2014 auction of the contents of the Soldiers National Museum in Gettysburg. This museum opened in the 1950s and operated for many years as the Charley Weaver Museum of the Civil War. “Charley Weaver,” an elderly rural character that actor Cliff Arquette created, appeared on many television shows through the mid-1970s. Mr. Arquette also was a wood carver, and 35 of his works, which had been on display at the museum, were included in the sale. [jet] [ph:L]
