Circular gold pin, measuring .875” in diameter, center five-point gold star with blue lettering, “Ladies of G.A.R./ 1861-1865”. Reverse horizontal bar pin. Reverse inscription: “Jennie M. Hudson/ Presented by Gettysburg 138/ L.G.A.R./ Jan. 4, 1938.” Accompanied by smaller, circular, “Past President” pin, with horizontal bar & chain. Housed in soft brown leather-snap case, with internal maker stamp: “Chas. A. Winship & Co/ Manufacturing Jewelers/ 713 Capitol Bldg. 159 N. State St. / Chicago, ILL.”, measuring 2.5 x 3.5”.
According to an article in the December 2, 1936 issue of the Gettysburg Times, Mrs. Jennie Hudson “was chosen president of Circle No. 138, G.A.R. to succeed Mrs. Arthur Cunningham at the annual election of officers conducted at a regular meeting of the organization . . . at the post room, East Middle street.” Various other mentions of Jennie were found in Gettysburg Times and Gettysburg Compiler editions both before and after the above date.
