MARKER MARKED CARTIDGE BOX PLATE FROM THE ED MILLER COLLECTION RECOVERED FROM 20TH MAINE POSITION ON LITTLE ROUND TOP

$495.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 2022-1297

Plate is in beautiful untouched condition. The face has a wonderful even smooth brown patina with a strong “US” stamping. Face is free of dings and dents.

Reverse has 100% of the lead fill and both rusted hooks. There are two spots where the rust of the wire beneath the lead is bleeding through the surface. One of the rust spots partially obstructs the bottom portion of the maker’s mark but “E. GAYLORD” is still visible.

Attached to the plate is a paper label with an ink inscription that reads “THIS PLATE RECOVERED FROM POSITION HELD BY 20TH MAINE ON LITTLE ROUND TOP JULY 2, 1863.” Reverse of the tag reads “FOUND BY: ED MILLER GETTYSBURG, PA.”

Item was recovered by the late Eddie Miller who was a longtime Gettysburg resident and relic hunter. [AD] [PH:L]
