Offered here is a Gettysburg veteran’s souvenir from a return visit to the battlefield, seen on page 120 of O'Donnell's book.
A small handmade cloth pouch with button closure, measures about 3” x 2.5”. Inside are two pieces of stone. Accompanying this is a paper note written in old pen & ink, “Piece of stone from ‘The Devil’s Mine’ Gettysburg --.”
Paper tag shows a tear and one corner loss, otherwise clean and readable. An interesting relic possibly from a veteran who fought in the area. [jet] [ph:L]
