Empty letter envelope. Plain letter envelope with cancelled Jeff Davis postage stamp.  A green, ten-cent Jefferson Davis stamp is pasted in upper right corner. The stamp has Richmond cancellation.

Envelope is addressed in ink to “Dr. B.H. Hoyt / 45^th Regt, Wheaton / Divis, Breckingridges Corps”.  Barzillas H. Hoyt was a surgeon in the 45^th Virginia Infantry at the end of the war. The 45^th served mostly in Western Virginia and in the Valley towards the end of the war.
