CDV is a waist-up view of Union officer Jasper M. Griggs. He is wearing a dark colored coat with shoulder boards. Bottom of mount is marked, “BRADY, WASHINGTON”.

Reverse has a photographer’s imprint which reads, “BRADY’S NATIONAL PHOTOGRAPHIC PORTRAIT GALLERIES, NO. 352 PENNSYLVANIA AV. WASHINGTON, D.C. BROADWAY & TENTH ST. NEW YORK”. Reverse also has a green tax stamp present. Period ink inscription on reverse, “J M Griggs”.

Image is clear and the contrast is good. Surface has some light dirt from age. Image has yellowed with time.

Jasper M. Griggs enlisted at 21 years old on October 9, 1861 at Genesco as a Sergeant and was mustered into Co. “C”, 104th New York Infantry. He was later promoted to 1st Sergeant, then was mustered in as a 2nd Lieutenant on March 4, 1863. On May 2, 1863 he was promoted to 1st Lieutenant. He was wounded in action at Gettysburg on July 1, 1863. He then mustered in as 1st Lieutenant on September 9, 1863, then as a Captain on July 21, 1864. He was captured in action on August 19, 1864 at Weldon Railroad, Virginia and was later paroled in February of 1865. He mustered out with his company on July 17, 1865 near Washington, D.C.
