CDV is a chest-up view of Charles B. Cutler. He is wearing a light colored coat, dark colored vest, white shirt, and cravat. Bottom of mount has a hand-written inscription which reads, “YOUNG CHAS B. CUTLER”.
Reverse has a photographer’s imprint which reads, “S. MASURY, PHOTOGRAPHIC ARTIST, 289 WASHINGTON ST. BOSTON”.
Image is clear and the contrast is good. Surface has some light dirt from age. Image has yellowed with time.
Charles B. Cutler was born in Springfield, MA, and was a resident of Worchester, MA at the time of the Civil War. He enlisted as a Private on April 19, 1861, at the age of 19, and was mustered into Co. “A”, 3rd MA Battalion Rifles. He was mustered out on July 24, 1861. He was promoted to Sergeant-Major on July 19, 1862 as of the 34th MA Infantry. On August 11, 1862 he mustered into Field & Staff 34th MA Infantry. On March 18, 1864 he was promoted to 2nd Lieut. as of Co. “K”. He was promoted to 1st Lieut. on May 1, 1865. He mustered out on August 16, 1865. Cutler was a member of GAR Post #15 (John A. Andrew) in Boston. [sh]
