Isaac would be commissioned as a Captain in September 1861. His promotion to major would come in April, 1864. The regiment was engaged in no less than 19 engagements. Abraham would not make it through unscathed – he was wounded by an exploding spherical shot while fighting at Deep Bottom Run. The after-battle report written by Lieut. Col. Edward Campbell speaks of Abraham’s wounding:

“Next morning, Monday, August 15, I received orders to take up march about 9 o’clock, and moving up the Quaker Road halted near Craddock’s, about 3 miles beyond the middle of the road, at 1 o’clock. Here I was ordered by Col. Pond to send forward 100 men as skirmishers to support the pickets of the 2^nd Corps, already in position. I placed Capt. Hughes in command, and sent them forward to the line, where they remained until after dark that night. In going out to this position the Captain lost 2 men mortally and 2 men slightly wounded. I recalled him at 8 p.m., and he returned without further loss. At this point Major Abraham was wounded by a small bullet from a spherical case shot and disabled from duty, though not seriously wounded”.

Abraham wears the rank of Captain here which places the image some time before his promotion to Major in April 1864. Beautifully dressed, he is seated with his sword partially drawn from the scabbard. Subtle red tinting to his sash.

Abraham, born in 1817 in Fayette County, PA, died on July 4, 1890 at the age of 72 and is buried in Mount Moriah Baptist Cemetery in Smithfield, Fayette County, PA.
