MINT CONDITION M1839 OVAL-US MID-WAR ARROWBACK INFANTRY BELT PLATE

$450.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 988-35

This belt plate is in unissued, excellent condition, showing the original gilt finish on the brass and a pretty, unmarred level gray surface to the lead solder fill on the reverse. This is the standard Civil War enlisted infantry belt plate in a condition that would be hard to match. This has no dents or dings to rim, the face or the back and just some light age spotting to the bright gilt finish, which usually vanishes with even minimal handling.

The use of the double arrowhead hooks came in during 1862, and became the standard configuration from 1863 to 1865. This particular plate came from the H.K. White Company, one of the big postwar military surplus dealers with early connections to Schuyler, Hartley and Graham. If you believe in condition, condition, and condition, this one’s for you.  [sr] [ph:L]
