NEW YORK DEPOT PATTERN 1858 SMOOTH SIDE CANTEEN WITH REMAINS OF GOLD PAINT

$135.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 1054-1403

Many canteens and swords were painted gold for the 50th anniversary of the war and this is one of them.

Canteen is a standard wartime issue smooth side with all three sling keepers and spout. One of the upper sling keepers is punched with a hole for anchoring the stopper and chain but they are long gone. Cover was also removed long ago.

The body of the canteen has several moderate dents on each side which is normal for something that was used during and after the war. The spout is almost entirely covered in gold paint while each side of the body shows bits of gold paint here and there. Mostly along the edges. Approx. 2.00 inches from the bottom keeper is a sliver sized hole.

The canteen really has the look of a well-used veteran item.  [ad]
