This canteen shows several signs of use. There is no cover, sling or stopper.
The sides of the canteen have numerous small dings and dents consistent with use. The tin has darkened and oxidized from age. All three sling keepers are present and one of the upper keepers is punched with a hole to hold a stopper chain. Pewter spout is present and has darkened with age. A soldier has made a small hole in the spout, just below the rim, to increase the flow of water.
Attached is an old red string that was used to hang the canteen on a wall. [ad] [ph:L]
