This is a black leather holster made for revolvers. The leather still shows the faint “profile” of a revolver cylinder and barrel. A .31 caliber “pocket” model Colt fits perfectly into this holster. The revolver carried in this holster had a longer barrel (6” or 7”) and wore a hole at the tip.

The holster “pocket” measures 9.5” along its front edge. Holster is made of a single piece of black bridle leather folded and sewn together down the back seam. Belt loop was originally sewn and remnants of thread and stitch holes remain visible. Period repair reattached the belt loop with rivets. Belt loop is approximately 1” wide and is attached by two rivets on each end. The leather plug that originally closed the end of the holster is long gone and the end now closed with several loops of thread. There are no makers stamps.

There is no closing tab. Flap was closed using a cuff sized staff button. Button had been moved to three different positions and have corresponding holes. A repair was made to reinforce a split next to where the button is currently positioned.

In overall good condition, this holster shows use. Entire leather body shows crazing but no loss of the surface finish. This is a good, military-style flap holster that would accommodate a smaller M1849 revolver.  [jet] [ph:L]
