The 82nd National GAR Encampment was held in Grand Rapids, Michigan and was considered one of the last meetings of the organization. The last GAR parade and encampment would be the following year in Indianapolis, Indiana. Membership was only 28 people by 1948 and pictured here are 6 of those members. Each member is well into their late 90s-early 100s with James Hard (pictured on far right) at age 107. The other members are (from left to right) Charles Chappel of Long Beach, California; William Osborn, of Joplin, Missouri; John Grate of Atwater, Ohio and Albert Woolson of Duluth, Minnesota.
