CDV ALBUM WITH PHOTO OF AN ID’D 104TH NEW YORK OFFICER

$225.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 2022-528

Album contains 30 images most of which are of the Kenney family of Troy, New York as well what are believed to be cousins from Massachusetts and elsewhere. All but two of the images are Civil War period and all are civilians but one.

The lone soldier image is of Charles A. Kenney of Company K, 104th New York Infantry. Kenney is posed leaning against a column base on which his kepi rests. The front of the cap has an infantry hunting horn with the number “104” at center. Kenney wears dark frockcoat and matching trousers with a thin light leg stripe. Visible on his shoulders are his 2nd lieutenant straps.

Image has excellent clarity and contrast. Mount and paper are excellent.

Reverse is blank. ID comes from the album page which has faint period pencil writing at the top that reads “CHAS. A. KENNEY, TROY” while at bottom is what looks to be a late 1800’s or early 1900’s ID that reads “CHAS. A. KENNEY OF TROY.”

The album is in good condition with most of the images identified on the pages. The brass clasp to hold the album closed is gone.

It should be pointed out that the first CIVILIAN image in the album is identified as “CAMDEN M. SMITH.” Records show only one soldier with that unusual name in the Union army. He served in Company D, 15th Massachusetts and was captured at Ball’s Bluff.

Charles A. Kenney, was born April 8, 1841 in Troy, New York. He was commissioned a 2nd lieutenant in Company K, 104th New York on July 19, 1862. He was promoted to 1st lieutenant on July 28, 1862 and was discharged on April 23, 1864.

After the war he returned to Troy where he was active in the Military Order of the Loyal Legion. He died November 18, 1912 and is buried in Troy’s Oakwood Cemetery.  [ad] [ph:L]
