Reverse has back mark for J. A. SHELDON…NEW ORLEANS. Top has a period ink inscription that reads “C. B. HINSDILL.”
Charles Brigham Hinsdill was born in Michigan. He was commissioned Captain in the US Volunteers Commissary Department on August 16, 1861. He earned two brevet promotions, one to Major on March 13, 1865 and another to Lieutenant Colonel to rank from the same date. He was mustered out on July 7, 1865 and died July 5, 1900. [ad]
