Published by “E. & H.T. Anthony, No. 501 Broadway, New York…Photographic Albums.” Bearded, bareheaded Hanson in full uniform w/sash in standing studio pose w/right hand inserted, Napoleonic style, in coat. Superb image. In every respect, clear and clean.
Known as “Old Flintlock,” Kentuckian Hanson served as a Lieutenant of Kentucky Vols. during the Mexican War. Though staunchly conservative and initially opposed to secession, enrolled in the Kentucky State Guard as a Colonel and was commissioned Colonel of the 2nd Confederate 2nd Infantry. Captured at Ft. Donelson, Hanson was exchanged just in time to lead the Kentucky Brigade of John Breckinridge at the Battle of Murfreesboro, where he was mortally wounded, Jan. 2, 1863.
For Confederate command aficionados, and excellent collectible. [jp]
