Photograph shows a full seated view of freed slave child Rebecca Huger looking up upon a large American flag. Printed on mount under the image is: "Oh! How I love the old flag. / Rebecca. / A slave child from New Orleans." Photographer's backmark, Chas. Paxson, New York. Also on the back is printed: "No. 5. / Entered, according to act of Congress, in the year 1864, by S. Tackaberry, in the Clerk's Office of the U.S. for the Southern District of New-York. / The nett [sic] proceeds from the sale of these photographs will be devoted to the education of colored people in the Department of the Gulf, now under the command of Maj. Gen. Banks."

Card has a small crease in lower, right corner, otherwise in very good condition. [jet]   [ph:L]
