Full-standing studio view of Coffin in Navy uniform. He has a double-breasted frock, vest, and cap. Clear image with good detail and contrast. Very faint pencil identification on lower edge of mount under image. Plain mount with no photographer's backmark.

Coffin was from Massachusetts. He enlisted on 3/21/1862 as an Acting Master into the US Navy. He served on the U.S.S. Ohio, Gem Of The Sea, and Rosalie in the East Coast Blockading Squadron. In July, 1863 Coffin assisted in the capture of the British schooner Georgie near Ft. Myers, Florida. He was discharged on 12/7/1865.
