Full standing view of Confederate soldier in uniform. He wears a single-breasted jacket and kepi. The kepi features a crossed-cannon insignia. The image is clear with good contrast. A few ink drops and rust stains on image. Period note and signature on bottom edge. Note appears to be in French including "ami" (friend) and a name. No photographer's backmark. A pencil note by Mr. Turner on the back.

An "A. Schumacher" is found listed in Watson's (Louisiana) Light Artillery and an "Arnold Schumacher" is listed in Pointe Coupee Battalion (Louisiana) Light Artillery. Both having enlisted in mid-1861 with no other records.

From the collection of the late William Turner.  [jet] [ph:L]
