View is a full standing CDV of a Union officer posed by a chair which is completely covered with a carpet. Apparently, the officer felt some need to show off the floral decoration on the carpet so he simply draped it over the photographer’s chair. Perhaps it was a gift for his wife or mother.
The officer wears a a single-breasted frock coat with light trousers. There are shoulder straps on the coat but the rank field is not visible. At his waist he wears his sash with sword belt and Model 1850 foot officer’s sword.
Clarity is good but the contrast is a bit on the light side. Paper and mount show light surface dirt.
Reverse has a photographer’s imprint for WHITING”S… COLUMBUS, KY. [AD] [PH:L]
