Very nice Union case with an exterior decoration titled “THE FAITHFUL HOUND.” Both the front and back of the case have a raised linear border while at center are raised figures of a woman and child in an embrace watched by a large resting dog. The scene is flanked by floral scrolls.

Case is in excellent condition. Both brass hinges are good and the exterior has no chips. The front edge has one very small closed crack about an 0.08” long near one of the brass fasteners.

Inside the case is a crushed red felt pillow with an arched scroll and stem worked into the felt. The interior also holds two sixth-plate ambrotypes. One of an older man in a dark suit and tie with white shirt. The other image is a seated view of an older woman who appears to be in mourning. She wears a dark dress with a dark collar and light brooch. She also wears a dark veil. Both images are very clear with good contrast.    [ad][ph:L]
