This is a waist-up seated view of a man who is wearing a dark colored frock coat, vest and white shirt with cravat. Some light oxidation has occurred on edges of the image. Enclosed with the image is a handwritten note in period ink identifying the man. Note reads, “Stephen Tilton Browne, Graduate Dickinson College - Lawyer- In U.S. Navy during Civil War”. A brief amount of internet research did not yield any information about Browne.
Image is clear and has good contrast.
Image comes housed in a full pressed paper case with colorful flowers embellishing the front. Case is in very good condition and is lined in red velvet, which has an embossed design. Case has some wear on edges. Decorative brass mat surrounds the image. [sl] [ph:L]
