This very nice Ambro features a standing Union infantryman in uniform and proudly displaying his state affiliation. He wears a fatigue blouse and the dark blue variation of trousers, while tucked away at order arms is what appears to be a m1842 Springfield. He sports corresponding accoutrements to include his issue belt with accessories and cartridge box.  His forage cap disk is adorned with “NHV”; denoting his status as a New Hampshire Volunteer.

The image is in a thermoplastic case with a patriotic shield motif on front and back.  There is some minor edge chipping along the left front and low left rear corner. Both hinges are complete and both sets of brass closing tabs function as intended. The front half of the case is lined with a floral-embossed velvet pad.  The photograph is mounted in a stamped brass frame with a gilt finish and ornate patterning of floral vining and stars. A piece of glass protects the front of the image.  A typed yellow card is fixed to the velvet pad that describes some of the photo’s details. The image is in nice condition with good clarity and contrast, though the man’s body is somewhat out of focus relative to his face.  Case measures 3.9” x 4.9”.

This is a classic style of image for the collector of the war’s many faces.   [cm] [ph:L]
