This attention-grabbing ambrotype features a young soldier in an enlisted dress frock - complete with epaulettes, dark blue trousers, full complement of infantry rifle/musket gear, and what appears to be a Pattern 1854 Austrian Lorenz or similar Prussian-style rifle.
The image shows good contrast and clarity, complimented by a plain frame with remaining gilt finish and geometric border patterns. A piece of cut glass fronts the image, while a piece of cut brass backs it. Some light tarnish is noted on the face of the frame in localized areas. Dimensions are 2.8” x 3.3”. No case is included.
An impressive Civil War image of a Union infantryman in the quintessential style. [cm] [PH:L]
