This image features a pair of soldiers – one a Sergeant and one enlisted – in true, federal-issue style.  Both men sport dark blue trousers of the pre-sky-blue variety, enlisted dress frocks, forage caps, mid-graft boots, and earlier pattern belts.  Tucked in each man’s belt is a Colt revolver in position for a right-hand draw.

The image is just a touch out of focus, but the primary details are clear enough.  The image shows some emulsion-related damage at low left but does not obscure the soldiers.  The frame is a brass gilt oval shape with a floral and geometric face.  The frame rest in a pressboard case with leather covering.  The front half of the case hosts a loose velvet pad, while the image section retains its original commercial paper lining. Two hook clasps are present while the exterior fabric hinge has split and the interior remains strong. Some material loss is noted on the faces of the case.  Dimensions are 3.7” x 4.7”.

A few uncommon characteristics make this a desirable image for the Civil War collector.  [cm][ph:L]
