Case holds a ninth-plate daguerreotype of Edward Drinker. This is a waist up view. He wears a striped vest and dark jacket with a white shirt and typical fancy bow tie. Image is housed in an oval copper mat and copper frame. Opposite side of case is lined in purple velvet. Pinned to the lining is a slip of paper that reads, “Edward Drinker Born Aug 1833 Drowned 1855 Brother of William W. Drinker”. A brief amount of internet research did not yield any further information. The image is clear but somewhat light…when looking at it straight on. A ring of darker tarnish appears around the border of the oval mat which does not affect the image of the man. As with all daguerreotypes, if looked upon at an angle, the image has a more ghostly appearance.
Case is in excellent condition. The design along the edges consists of heavy scrollwork. A cherub is in the center. Case is held together by two brass hinges and remains strong and without cracks. [jet]
