This is a 1/6 plate daguerreotype photograph of uniformed militiaman in case.
The photograph is a nice image of a well-uniformed man. He has a full, under the chin beard and serious look. Uniform is triple-breasted with decorative cord mounted between the buttons, fringed shoulder straps, and he holds a feather-plumed shako hat with brass eagle and number. Image shows “halo” around outer edge as is typical of daguerreotypes.
Image is under glass and features the typical copper mat and frame assembly. The side opposite the image has pressed velvet lining. Exterior of case features matching floral pattern on both halves and has had black tape put on the hinge.
A sharp image. [jet][ph:L]
