This image features an extended bust view of an older gentleman in smart, period dress. The image is framed by a brass mat and includes the case glass and a piece of heavy, older pasteboard backing.
The sheet brass mat shows some scattered tarnish, offering an antique look. The image does show some very minor but typical edge darkening where it meets the oval inner border of the mat. Moving out from the photo, a layer of floral patterning accentuates the framing of the image. The image is taped to the mat with black masking style tape. The pasteboard backing features an older, penciled “41” at left center. The mat measures 5.4” x 6.5” and the image measures 4.3” x 5.8”.
A striking photograph from the antebellum period. It would display well and compliment any photograph or Civil War period collection. [cm][ph:L]
