Case holds a sixth-plate tintype of a young man. The man is seated and resting his arm on a table next to him. He is well dressed, wearing a white shirt with dark vest and jacket. He also sports an elaborate bow tie. Another detail is a lanyard that is visible, possibly holding a pair of eyeglasses as there is an open book on the table. A tie tack, pinky ring, and his shirt buttons have been gilded. Image is housed in a rectangular copper mat and frame. Opposite side of case is lined in red velvet. The image is still very clear although some of the emulsion is beginning to lift.
Case is in excellent condition. The design along the edges is heavy scrollwork while at center is a beehive flanked by a plow and a sheave of wheat. In front of the beehive on the ground are a sickle, pitchfork and shovel. Case is held together by two brass hinges and remains strong and without cracks. [jet]
