This is a cased quarter-plate tintype showing several groups of civilians (families?) in their wagons while on an outing. Horizontal format. Good detail visible in center, with image going dark at left and right sides. An old handwritten tag attached to the reverse of the image reads, “The Black family (left) and friends / drive down to the ice covered lake / Winnipesaukee for their ride which / they did many winter Sunday afternoons”.

The lake is located in New Hampshire.

Stamped copper frame holds the image, glass and copper mat together in case. The case is split at the hinge, otherwise only light wear to case. A nice civilian outdoor image with wagons and horses.  [jet]
