FULL STANDING QUARTER-PLATE TINTYPE OF ARMED UNION SOLDIER

$200.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 1139-44

Subject is posed in front of a painted backdrop of a lake or canal scene with a long boat with people in it on the water and mountains in the background. The soldier stands at the position of “ORDER ARMS” with his musket by his side. He wears a dark forage cap, dark four button sack coat with gilt buttons and light trousers. At his waist he wears his belt with cap box with gilt finial, gilt oval US plate with an empty bayonet scabbard. Tucked in his belt just above his cap box is a non-descript pistol.

Contrast and clarity are good but there is a slight shadow of oxidation from the subject’s waist upward, however it does not obscure any of the image. Reverse has a spurious label with ID that should be ignored.

Image comes in a full leather case with a brass mat decorated with shields and stars in the corners and a stamped brass frame. [AD] [ph:m]
