Image is a sixth-plate tin of a Union cavalryman wearing a dark slouch hat with the tassels of the hat cord turned toward the back of the hat. Just visible on the crown are crossed sabers that have been lightly touched with gilt paint. The subject also wears a cavalry shell jacket with tinted piping on the collar and cuffs, down the front and on the buttons. His trousers appear to be dark, almost the same color as the jacket.

At the subject’s waist is his belt with rectangular plate that has also been touched with gilt by the photographer. The trooper is posed with one hand resting on the hilt of a Model 1840 cavalry saber and tucked in his belt are a pair of Remington revolvers one of which has the trigger guard highlighted with gilt paint.

Contrast and clarity are very good. Image is clean and comes with a decorative brass mat and stamped brass scrollwork frame.

Image is housed in a full leather case with an expertly repaired hinge. The exterior of the case has a wonderful decoration of a spread-winged eagle perched on a vine above a bunch of grapes. Case is in very smooth, clean condition.  [ad][ph:L]
