SIXTH PLATE TINTYPE OF HOSPITAL STEWARD

$595.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 224-322

Rare view of a seated Hospital Steward holding a Model 1840 Medical Officer’s sword in his lap.

The young clean shaven subject wears a dark frockcoat with sash and sword belt with rectangular eagle plate, dark trousers and gauntlets on his hands. Each sleeve of the coat has a clearly visible Hospital Steward chevron attached. Laying across the subjects lap is the sword with a clearly visible hilt.

Image has good contrast and clarity though focus is a little off. Details on the belt plate and some of the hilt can be seen with a loop. Traces of light gilt remain on the buttons, belt plate and sword.

Image comes with the stamped brass frame and mount and is housed in a full leather case with brass clasp. Case decoration is a geometric pattern. Interior has red felt pad.  [ad] [ph:L]
