Image shows a Union captain standing in a field in front of some trees that line a nearby road. Visible in the left background is a line of three Sibley tents with more in the mid background. The officer is posed holding his horse’s bridle. He wears a dark kepi, dark frock coat and light trousers. The subject also wears his sword belt with shoulder support strap and Model 1860 Cavalry sword attached.
The horse is dark with a dark mane and tail. Visible on the horse just behind the subject is a McClellan saddle with blanket, saddlebags and crupper.
Clarity and contrast are very good. When tilted at the right angle a slight wave and crease can be seen running diagonally from bottom center to top right. There is also some minor streaking in the emulsion but nothing major.
Photo comes in a split leather case with decorative brass mount and stamped brass frame. [ad] [ph:m]
