Image is of three young men seated according to height, the shortest on the left and the tallest on the right.
All three are posed with their hands on their lap and all are wearing shirts but no jackets. The fellow at center wears a dark bowtie. The two men at left wear dark trousers while the fellow at the far right wears light trousers. All have cheeks that are lightly rose tinted.
Contrast and clarity are excellent although the plate seems to have a faint toning to it.
There is no mat but the usual stamped brass frame is present.
Image is housed in a Union case with a military motif at center of a spread-winged eagle with a riband in its beak perched on the top of a patriotic shield flanked by cannons in front of a panoply of flags, all within a scrollwork border. The case is in very nice condition but when the it was molded in the factory it lost some of the detail to the eagle and shield of the decoration.
This is only a speculation but perhaps the image is of three “pards” who just enlisted and decided to have their photo taken. [AD] [ph:L]
