This tintype features a jovial young Union soldier seated with his legs crossed, pipe at the corner of his mouth. His hands rest in his lap in a relaxed way. He wears a forage cap, sack coat, and trousers.
This image is in good condition with one minor spot of flaking near the soldier’s waist on the right side. However, the spot is stable and should not deteriorate any further. There are a few light scratches on the bottom near the table legs and the soldier’s feet. Present here are the tin and the mat, whose edges have been turned back to hold the tin. [CLA][ph:L]
