Interesting tintype photograph of three Union soldiers; are they family or friends? Two of the three are wearing corps badges, but from different corps.
Very fine photo with very good focus and contrast. There is a very fine “ripple” pattern across the whole surface of the image; perhaps from letting the collodion get too hot or too cold. Whatever the cause it does not affect the content.
All are seated and appear from knees up. Soldier on left is in regulation frock, vest, and trousers. Wide stripe on trouser leg, buttons and watch chain gilted, 5th Corps badge pinned on breast. Cheeks tinted. Forage cap on head, possibly with rain cover. The middle fellow wears an unadorned slouch hat, regulation frock coat, vest, and gauntlets. Buttons gilted, cheeks tinted. Cavalryman on right wears slouch hat with crossed sabers and hat cord, regulation frock and vest. A 2nd Corps badge is pinned to his breast. Buttons gilted, cheeks tinted.
Complete with mat, glass, and frame inside case. Inside of lid is lined with maroon velvet. Cloth hinge has split otherwise the case is fine. A nice image. [jet][ph:L]
