A smartly-dressed Union Junior Officer is featured in this tintype photograph – sporting a pair of Colt revolvers and cradling his sword. He wears his sword belt, single breasted junior-officer frock, and finely made forage cap. All applicable accessories are gold-accented by hand.
The image is framed by a thinly-bordered brass frame with intact gilt and a floral motif. The frame is housed in a hinged gutta percha union case with original commercial label from “Littlefield, Parsons, & Co.” Some fabric wear is noted along the interior edges of the case’s rear half. The front half houses an embossed velvet pad. The case is decorated with a Federal motif of an eagle, shield, flag, and ordnance – surrounded by floral spray and American symbols. Both case hinges are present, as is the original brass clasp. Very light chipping and edge wear are noted along the protruding edges of the case. Dimensions are 3.3” x 3.75”.
Surely an excellent and striking addition to any collection of fine Civil War photography. [cm][ph:L]
