This striking tintype features a finely-appointed corporal of militia in his unit’s variation of full dress. Contrast and resolution are good, with gold accenting done by hand.
The image is framed in a gilt brass oval with floral edge and corner patterns. A piece of glass fronts the image and is free of scratches and damage. The image is housed in a heavy board case with leather covering. The leather hinge has separated but both case halves are present. The hook and loop clasp assembly pieces are present. A lock of hair is pinned to the velvet insert in the front case half, bound at the center by antique thread. Dimensions are 3.25” x 3.6”.
A handsome photo with a neat grouping of hair – an excellent pairing for the collector of Civil War era military photographs. [cm][ph:L]
