A very good condition tintype housed in half a dark brown leather embossed case. The glass is free of cracks and the matting all fits tight.
The image shows an infant baby, lying in state, on a light-colored cloth. The babies’ arms are lying on top with hands barely visible. The eyes are completely closed. The baby is wearing a long white dress. The identity and cause of death may never be known.
Due to the costly nature of photography at the time, this was probably the only picture ever taken of the little baby. Certainly, a cherished reminder by a loved one. Circa 1860 to 1870’s. [stp][ph:L]
